Funtastic pair of issues I've got articles in....
Of course, there's the mighty COMIC BOOK CREATOR magazine, issue #2 just came out at SDCC. It's our square-bound JOE KUBERT issue, which is a cover-to-cover treat for Kubert fans, and I wrote the issue's non-Kubert stuff: a profile of/interview with the great IRWIN HASEN, original artist on DONDI and DC's Wildcat, that retired pugilist turned superhero. Hasen is a pip - in his mid-90s and living on the Upper East Side these days. I also have an editorial at the end of the book that I wrote while traveling through Arizona (wrote it in Heart of Sedona coffee shop).
Then there's BACK ISSUE magazine -- #66 -- it's the team-up issue, and I wrote about MARVEL TEAM-UP -- Spidey and a superhero guest (even though, indirectly, I wrote about MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE -- The Thing and a superhero guest -- back when I did my Ron Wilson interview). The issue also presents the DC side of things, DC PRESENTS, SUPERMAN FAMILY and a few others. A particularly fun issue of the mag.

Make like Princess and pick up your copies of the complete GREENBLATT THE GREAT! collection HISTORY WILL BE SERVED! and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE HUMAN FLY ---both will be on sale at the CARTOON FLOPHOUSE booth, K-13, in the Small Press section at San Diego Comic-Con, beginning Wednesday night (July 17-21).
HISTORY WILL BE SERVED! contains every Greenblatt the Great! strip I've ever done, from the classic first 30 chapters to Greenblatt the Great's run-in with John Dillinger and his tours of Hollywood and Pacific Palisades. You want humor comics? You can't do better than this thick trade paperback. And at SDCC, I'll sign and doodle it up for ya!
THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE HUMAN FLY is both homage and a revival of comics based on the real-life Canadian stuntman superhero originally published by Marvel Comics and drawn by Frank Robbins, Frank Springer and Lee Elias. This book, which I've edited, contains work by myself as well as Rafael Navarro ("Sonambulo," "Guns A Blazin'"), John Heebink ("Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D."), Steven Butler ("Web of Spider-Man"), Gerry Talaoc ("The Unknown Soldier") and legendary letterer Janice Chiang (everything!). We also have contributions by the surviving original inkers and cover artists from the Marvel series - Bob Layton (the classic "Demon in a Bottle" storyline in "The Invincible Iron Man"), Don Perlin ("Werewolf by Night," "Defenders"), Al Milgrom ("ROM: Spaceknight") and Steve Leialoha ("Fables"). It's off the hook! A party on paper!
Thank you, GC, for this lovely illustration!

Notable releases at the TWOMORROWS.COM booth in San Diego Comic-Con:
* "Say it IS so, Joe!" The magazine that I'm associate editor on, COMIC BOOK CREATOR, will release its second issue in square-bound book format: a tribute to the late, great JOE KUBERT. One of my contributions to this issue is an article on DONDI and Wildcat co-creator IRWIN HASEN.
* BACK ISSUE #66 is out, devoted to the team-up books, including DC PRESENTS, WORLD'S FINEST, MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE and SUPERMAN FAMILY. There's also an AL MILGROM cover gallery. And I wrote the article on the behind-the-scenes of MARVEL TEAM-UP.
