Guess it's generational.

But I love the unselfconscious experimentation going on in the 1970s, whether it was Marvel Comics, or movies coming out of Hollywood from great directors with substance and great skill: Peckinpah, Hal Ashby, Michael Cimino, Coppola, Alan J. Pakula, etc. Also the great comedies by Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Gene Wilder, etc.

It appears that the success of Spielberg and Lucas put an end to all of that, as Hollywood became obsessed with courting teenagers and pumping out flicks that mandated happy endings and copied Spielberg and Lucas (horribly). It was by and large the end of serious filmmaking from the studios.

But for pure Bronze cheese on TV, there was HAWAII FIVE-O, right?Greenblatt the Great!https://www.blogger.com/profile/05833132744552978594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-148500349447339883.post-64952173901952112082009-05-09T19:54:00.000-07:002009-05-09T19:54:00.000-07:00Great Article Mike!
