That's right, GREENBLATT THE GREAT! #3 has barely rolled out (I'll have copies at SD Comic-Con and at APE Convention in SF in October), but today and tomorrow, I'm previewing brand new strips from GREENBLATT THE GREAT! #4. But do not fret! I'm not giving away the gold....there are so many surprises in GREENBLATT THE GREAT #4 that you're gonna want to buy the book when it comes out in 2011.

Just in time for San Diego Comic-Con, here’s a brand new CARTOON FLOPHOUSE magazine!

CRYING MACHO MAN #4 is out now, and my Cartoon Flophouse partner-in-punchlines, cartoonist JOSE CABRERA, will be signing them at the A Wave Blue World booth (K-11) in Small Press at Comic-Con.

CRYING MACHO MAN #4 is Jose’s latest collection of hilarious gag cartoons. This one is loaded with Marvel and DC superhero shout-outs, as Superman (twice in one book!), Spider-Man, Batman, Wolverine and Ghost Rider all get the CMM spoof treatment. And hell, while Jose was at it, he lampooned another cartoon character: ME! Look for Michael Aushenker among several of the Cartoonistas (Jim Lujan, Javier Hernandez and Ted Seko among them) in a waiting room scene. Sheesh, the man’s pen can not stop with the mocking!

Also, this issue features a preview of Jose’s riff on “Ghostbusters” for the GHOULA (Ghost Hunters of Urban Los Angeles) comic book due in October (I’ll be contributing to that book as well). I rank #4 high up there, second to CMM magazine #2 among my personal favorites. Adamant About Adams' BATMAN Covers

Up 'n Adams: Neal is the real deal.....

In the late 1960s through '70s, there was no bigger superstar in comics than NEAL ADAMS. He brought realism to superhero comics in a way unseen at the time and copied ad nauseum ever since.

In the 1980s, Neal Adams covers such as these on a printing of Edgar Rice Burroughs' TARZAN made me grab the books from my library and turned me onto Burroughs' masterful prose.




In just the last few years, I've become a huge fan of the 1970s run of PHANTOM STRANGER (I wrote about the Stranger's adversary, Dr. Thirteen, in BACK ISSUE magazine #36). Adams did the awesome, suspenseful covers on those PHANTOM STRANGER comics. Here are some highlights...Joyeux Bastille Day!

BOO Marvel's Unincredible Kevin Feige!

If this report is correct, it seems that the Marvel exec took a superfluous pot shot at Ed Norton after Norton negotiated in good faith to reprise his role of Bruce Banner for the AVENGERS movie.

I'm disappointed that they let Norton, who was superb in THE INCREDIBLE HULK, slip through their fingers. But I'm more disappointed that Marvel did not pursue a sequel to THE INCREDIBLE HULK (which promised The Leader in a sequel). I rather see INCREDIBLE HULK 2 than AVENGERS, to be honest. If IRON MAN 2 is any indication (the toothless Sam Jackson Nick Fury, the so-so casting of Black Widow), I can't say I'm super-excited about the AVENGERS movie. I'm hopeful they'll make a decent THOR movie and get CAPTAIN AMERICA right....

....Right now, I'm more interested in the GREEN LANTERN movie and BATMAN sequel right now......and I grew up reading Marvel!



The DC comic book movies just seem to be more creatively interesting right now. SUPERMAN RETURNS aside, I enjoyed the recent BATMAN films, WATCHMEN, and even the much-maligned box-office failure JONAH HEX......while I thought the FANTASTIC FOUR films were really lacking, I detested WOLVERINE, and I was let down by the talky IRON MAN 2, which boasted some nonsensical action scenes devoid of much logic.

By the way, SUCH a good poster above: this image sums up THE INCREDIBLE HULK and captures the FUGITIVE-esque flavor of the HULK TV series to boot. It's too bad HULK wasn't big enough a hit to generate a sequel. When all was said and done, I think it only made $20 million more than the godawful Ang Lee version from 2003.
